By the end of 2014 the Southern Military District is scheduled to receive more than 1,400 new and upgraded weapons models, military and special equipment units, the press service of the district said. This year, the Southern Military District troops received more than 420 units of military equipment.
The naval units are planning to get more than 20 units of warships, boats, auxiliary vessels and naval aircraft, including “Novorossiysk” and “Rostov-on-Don” submarines, “Admiral Grigorovich” and “Admiral Essen” patrol ships, patrol and anti-sabotage boats. The “Veliky Ustyug” small missile ship has already arrived in the Caspian Flotilla, where it is undergoing state tests. Three Su-30SM aircraft joined the Black Sea Fleet naval aviation.
The Air Force expects to receive more than 60 units of modern aircraft and helicopters. 10 Su-34 and Su-30M2 aircraft have already been taken into service at the Southern Military District aviation units.
