After the reunification of the Crimea and Russia the main base of the Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol will have only Russian ships and submarines. Moreover, now there raises a question of expanding the presence of the Black Sea Fleet in Crimea through the use of facilities and bases, where formerly Naval Forces of Ukraine were deployed.
Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Admiral Viktor Chirkov told about the plans concerning the Black Sea Fleet development.
According to him, the main of them is to promote stability in the Black Sea region, to ensure safety of peaceful economic activities, navigation.
By the end of the year the Black Sea Fleet will receive two of the six Project 636 submarines “Novorossiysk” and “Rostov-on-Don”. By the end of the year it is also planned to raise the flag on the first of the six 1135.6 project patrol ships, which are being built for the Black Sea Fleet.
