Black Sea Fleet to Receive Patrol Ships and Diesel-Electric Submarines

“The series of six patrol ships of project 1135.6 aims to significantly enhance the potential of the above-water part of the Black Sea Fleet,” said the commander in chief, commenting launching of patrol ship “Admiral Essen” in the Kaliningrad Shipyard “Yantar” on 7 November.

According to the Commander in Chief, “the problem of updating of ships of the Black Sea Fleet is long overdue.” “Recently, the Black Sea began to perform tasks as part of a permanent task force in the Mediterranean. Project 1135.6 escort ships, which from 2015 will replenish combat the Black Sea Fleet, will allow to fully solve these problems. We plan to receive the first two patrol ships of 1135.6 project from the factory “Yantar” in 2015,” said the admiral, cited by Interfax-AVN.

He recalled that in 2015 the Black Sea Fleet will receive diesel-electric submarines, a series of six units of which are under construction by “Admiralty Shipyards”.
